People always have a lot of confusion about what to wear during summer. The heat during summer can take its toll over you and clothes are something that can save you from the tormenting heat. People are always confused about what to wear during this season. While wearing shorts and T-Shirts seems more comfortable, it also leaves increases the risk of sun tan and heat stroke. You can also keep your body cooler through proper diet.
It is very important to keep your body cool during summer because the excess heat can adversely affect your health. Sweating is the body’s way to keep the body cool during summer. Sweating alone is not sufficient especially when the temperature goes well above normal. Evaporation of the sweat from the surface of the skin is also important. People choose their summer clothing while keeping the latest fashion in mind. While wearing full sleeve T-shirts and trousers covers your body and protects it from tan, it also reduces the rate of evaporation of the sweat which in turn affects the body’s cooling ability and your health. This is actually an essential trade off when the sun is shining.
This holds true even during cooler season when you go out to exercise to maintain your health. While exercising your body heats up and releases sweat. For the body to cool off efficiently, it is important that the sweat evaporates. This means that lesser clothing is better while exercising.
You need to strike a balance with the clothing so that the evaporation rate of sweat is not compromised to a level where it can be detrimental for your body and at the same time, the amount of clothing also does not increase the risk of sun tan and sun burns.
Wear loose clothing so that air can flow through your skin. Wear lighter shades so that your clothes do not absorb a lot of heat. Loose clothing that covers your body would protect your body from burns without compromising on the evaporation rate of sweat. If you are thinking that you can wear less and wear a sun screen along to protect your body from burns, quit this thought because sunscreen affects the evaporation of sweat and sometimes reduces the amount of sweat produced. Wearing a sunscreen is actually not advisable in case you have to do some physical workout like a long walk or climbing stairs and other such activities.
Another confusing thought during summer is weather to wear light coloured clothing or dark. People think that Bedouins wear thick and dark coloured robes to keep themselves cool and hence they start believing that dark coloured clothing is suitable for summer. This is not entirely true. The Bedouin clothing is fine because of its thickness. The clothing gets hot from outside but the thickness protects the skin from the heat. Obviously you cannot wear those Bedouin robes if you have even the slightest sense of fashion.
So the bottom line is, wear loose clothing during summer, enough to cover your body in order to eliminate the risk of burns. Long sundresses or just below knee length shorts would do just fine. Wear light shades because they would keep you cool.
