Spring time- it’s a time to emerge from our stuffy blankets, throw off our thick layers, and open up those dusty windows.
This time of year has such a fantastic energy, that I simply love, and not only is it associated with spring cleaning for you home, but it’s also a great time of year to give your body a spring clean too. Throughout the winter months it’s common for various bugs to be circling through our schools and workplaces and with our lack of sunshine, fresh air and outdoor activity, our immune system may not be in tip top shape. That’s why, when spring rolls around, a cleanse can be just the renewal our body is craving.
The term detoxing refers to making certain lifestyle change:
- eating certain cleansing foods
- cutting out sugar and junk food
- taking cleansing supplements and herbs in order to rid our body of toxins.
So what are toxins? And why is it so important to remove them from the body regularly?
Toxins include:
- heavy metals,
- chemicals,
- hormones,
- metabolic waste (waste created by our own body through normal bodily functions),
- free radicals -created from harmful electromagnetic fields emitted from our many electrical devices,
- or anything that may be harmful or ‘toxic’ to our body in excess.
Throughout the day, our various organs go through hundreds of different process’ and functions. The air that we breathe, pesticides in our food, emotional and physical stressors, cosmetics, conventional household cleaning products, water and air pollution can all contribute to toxic overload. These toxins can accumulate in various organs specifically the liver, kidneys, small and large intestines, brain, blood or lymphatic system.
Over time, these toxins can cause feelings of tiredness, lethargy, brain fog, bloating, constipation, sluggish organs, poor sleep and digestion and skin conditions. In the long run, this congestion can lead to overworked and overstressed body systems, organ malfunction, and eventually disease. Detoxing is a way to prevent these toxins from building up to the point of illness.
There are many different ways to detox and where to start can be overwhelming, but the easiest way is to use a detox supplement kit and try to eat as healthily and as clean as possible during your detox time. This means cutting out sugar, junk food, caffeine, fried foods and often diary, gluten and other common allergens too. Eating a diet high in vegetables, clean sources of protein such as lean white meat and fish, seeds, nuts and drinking lots of water and herbals tea is a great place to start for optimal cleansing.
One of my favourite cleanses is the Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox. This kit comes with four supplement bottles packed full of herbal extracts specific for each organ and bodily function. It’s so easy to take, and the programme is just 12 days and comes with a comprehensive diet guide making it a great option for first timers and experienced ‘detoxers’ alike.
Currently, at Better Living Wellness Clinic and Health Store, the Wild Rose D-Tox kit is available as buy one get one half price. So, grab a buddy and commit to your spring time reboot today. Because let’s face it, no one wants to detox alone!
