If you are experiencing pain, inflammation, muscle tightness or even breathing difficulties, Camilla Singh RMT now offers cupping at Better Living Wellness Clinic and Health Store in Toronto (Etobicoke).
How Does Cupping Work?
Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses glass or plastic cups to create a suction on the body part that is being treated. In her practice, Camilla uses a rubber pump instead of fire to create suction. By creating a suction and negative pressure, cupping softens tight muscles, reduces inflammation, increases blood flow and hydration, and drains excess fluids and toxins.
Lighter suction with long strokes can be used for lymphatic drainage, whereas stronger suction in stationary positions helps with deep tissue release and breaking of cellulite. Cups have been used extensively for asthma, phlegm and easing of labored breathing when applied to the chest and upper/middle back.
Cupping Therapy in History
Cupping dates back to 1550 BC where the Chinese used animal horns to create a vacuum to draw out toxins and stimulate Chi, and the Egyptians used it for pain, fever and lung conditions. In a report from 2015, published in Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, cupping was shown to help with acne, herpes zoster and pain management. This is similar to the report from 2012 when 135 studies were reviewed and showed that cupping Is also beneficial as an adjunct therapy for facial paralysis and cervical spondylosis.
Cupping can leave slight discoloration lasting for a few hours to a few days depending on the level of stagnation and toxicity in the treated area. If there is no stagnation, there will be slightly pink markings lasting for a few moments. A bright red to dark purple mark would indicate the release of intense stagnation of body fluid and toxins in the affected area.
