Deep tissue massage is like Swedish massage; however, the pressure is firmer and deeper which is beneficial to relieve chronic muscle tension and pain. Deep tissue massage allows for increase in blood flow and releases toxins as it focuses on the deepest layers of muscle, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage is effective in breaking down muscle “knots” that can limit range of motion and cause pain and inflammation.
Here are the benefits of deep tissue massage:
- Stress Relief: people who suffer from chronic stress have tension buildup in the head, neck and shoulder area. Deeper treatment in the upper body decreases the incidents of headaches, TMJ and stiff shoulders.
- Improves Blood Pressure: deep tissue massage reduces stress and therefore high blood pressure that is stress induced. In addition, it can help increase the production of serotonin which is the “feel good” neurotransmitter in your body.
- Rehabilitate Injured Muscles: a deeper treatment helps to mobilize and remove toxins that are built up in the tight, twisted injured muscles that have accumulated since the original trauma. With a deep-tissue treatment and stretching, muscle function improves, flexibility increases and discomfort decreases.
- Reduction of Chronic Pain: as deep tissue reduces both muscle tension and inflammation, chronic pain, due to these two factors, automatically decreases or is fully eliminated.
