What is Reiki?
New to Better Living in Toronto, Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that releases energy blocks and restores inner balance and harmony. Life force is the energy that is present in all living things and if this energy is weak or blocked, we become more susceptible to poor health conditions. When our life force energy is strong, we are able to remain in good health and experience wellbeing.
Reiki has emotional, mental and physical benefits such as:
- Releases blocked and unresolved feelings and energies
- Balances the energies in the body
- Promotes the body’s innate healing abilities
- Clears the body’s energy centers
- Promotes self-awareness
- Strengthens the immune system
- Reduces pain and relieves stress
- Induces deep relaxation
- Eases anxiety, excessive worrying and depression
- Supports other treatment methods to speed healing
- Enhances feelings of wellbeing
- Improves sleep and increases energy levels
- Eases chronic symptoms (e.g. headaches, asthma)
- Strengthens life force energy in the body encouraging faster recovery from a variety of conditions
Reiki is an extremely safe healing technique that does not interfere with any other allopathic or holistic treatments including medications and supplements. With the increased popularity of Reiki, scientific studies have been confirming it’s effectiveness and even some hospitals in the United States are incorporating Reiki healing techniques alongside their standard treatments. Reiki can be used as a healing technique on it’s own or in conjunction with other treatments to support healing and enable faster recovery. It is safe for all ages and stages including childhood and pregnancy as Reiki can do no harm.
Reiki is not a religion; it has no dogma and there is nothing that must be believed in for it to work. It promotes peace and harmony and does not conflict with any religious beliefs.
What to expect during your Reiki session?
Reiki is delivered through a trained and skilled practitioner’s hands that are placed either slightly above or gently resting on the body in a specific sequence. The client rests fully clothed on the massage table or a chair during the session. Before a session, the practitioner and the client discuss the client’s concerns, intentions and expectations in detail.
What does a Reiki session feel like?
Each experience of a Reiki session is individual and may differ from person to person and from one session to the next. A client may feel heat or cold emanating from the practitioner’s hands, a sensation of warmth or tingling throughout the body. Usually, after a session, a person will feel very relaxed, rested and invigorated. Some people may get insights and ideas about solving certain problems that have been on their minds and may also experience different emotions while releasing energy blockages. As with any holistic treatment it is possible to experience slight aggravation of the symptoms as the old emotions and blocked energies are released. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of water after your session to support your healing process.
